It’s under the platform. Ride one of the wheels under the lava flow to get it.

It is on a platform along the way.

If you wait until the very last moment on the wheel in the lava just before the checkpoint, the puzzle piece will roll out from under the lava along with it.

Blow on the windmill to the left of the checkpoint, and a platform will lower, allowing you to ascend to
the bonus area.
